Frontier Services WELL Program

Frontier Services operates ages care facilities in the Northern Territory. These facilities offer quality care and residential services to elderly people, including respite. A high percentage of residents are Indigenous. Business activities are dedicated to providing accommodation and high levels of care to residents. The primary goal of the workplace is to deliver quality personal care to meet the needs of each resident in a culturally appropriate manner. This includes provision of medical support and treatments, therapy, social activities and events. Other services undertaken within the facility include domestic services (catering, cleaning laundry), maintenance and gardening.

Central Desert Training has been engaged to facilitate a Workplace English Language Literacy (WELL) program. A total of 70 aged care workers will receive LLN training after being assessed against the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

This project employs two (2) Language Literacy and Numeracy lecturers who work across Tennant Creek and Alice Springs aged care facilities to assist employees in developing skills in the following areas: creating documentation, reading charts and care plans and entering data into the online resident database, cross cultural communication skills, understanding work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures. This training will ensure that all staff members are able to complete the required documentation accurately.
