Kailas (Director) Kailas established Central Desert Training in 2004 as a sole trader and incorporated the business in 2005. He takes a hands on approach to the business, undertaking training, mentoring, workplace training consultation, training coordination, pre-employment training and LL&N support. Kailas is also responsible for sourcing of funding and applying for tenders and / or panel memberships and dealing with Government departments. Kailas received an Excellence Award from Newmont Australia & New Zealand in 2005. He was awarded for outstanding contribution and excellence in promoting and fostering Indigenous employment at the Tanami Operations. Kailas was awarded Best Young Learning Leader for the Asia Pacific Region 2010 from LearnX Training Magazine Australia. Nicole (Training / Projects Manager) Nicole started with Central Desert Training in 2005 as Projects Officer. Nicole completed her training as Workplace Trainer and Assessor (TAA04) and has since worked as IT trainer across Central Australia, Art Centre Manager at Keringke Arts at Santa Teresa and Horticulture Trainer in Ti Tree. In 2008 the company became a Registered Training Organisation and Nicole is responsible for all Quality and Regulatory compliances with DET. She manages all projects and consults with staff, communities and trainees on a regular basis. Nicole was awarded Best Training Manager Gold for the Asia Pacific Region 2009 from LearnX Training Magazine Australia. Nicole was runner up for the category of Northern Territory Business Owner of the year and was a finalist for the marie claire Young Business woman of the year in the Telstra Business Woman of the Year Awards 2011. The awards were highly competitive and the rigorous application and selection process made it a great learning experience for Nicole. Nicole is now part of an elite group of business women who have been selected for this prestigious award. Mary Flynn (WELL tutor) Mary joined Central Desert Training in July 2010 as tutor for the Central Land Council WELL project in Ti Tree, Santa Teresa and Tjuwanpa. Mary has an extensive background in oral history recording and documentation. Mary speaks Arranda and has many family connections across Central Australia. Michael Schell (WELL tutor) Mike joined Central Desert Training in July 2010 as tutor for the Central Land Council WELL project in Santa Teresa. Jo Molin (WELL tutor) Jo will be joining our team full time from January 2011. Jo will service remote communities with WELL training and follow up with coordinators and participants about the progress of the project. Jo will also undertake other consultancy work for Central Desert Training when the need arises. Matu Te Pou (Lead Mentor) Matu joined our team full time in March 2011 as lead mentor for the DIDP project in Katherine. Matu has a lot of experience leading and coordinating staff. His New Zealand Indigenous background give him very good insights into day to day issues many of the participants of the program face. Jacob William (Mentor) Jacob joined us full time in March 2011 as part of the DIDP program. Jacob is a mentor and supports Matu on a day to day basis, forming good relationships with the participants, planning and organising activities. Jacob has a great background as a tutor and heavily involved at the University of Tasmania Multicultural Mentoring Program. Rick Dalgrin (Mentor) Rick joined us full time in February 2012 as part of the DIDP program.Rick has an extensive background within the Army and has worked as a Sergant medical assistant for a Regimental Aid post in a Army infantry battalion composing of one Doctor and 10 medical attendants. Rick has an intimate knowledge of Aboriginal culture and community environments; and an understanding of the problems aboriginal people might face. He lived and worked last year in Cannon Hill Mob area. Lance Mihaere (Mentor) Lance joined us full time in February 2012 as part of the DIDP program.Lance worked as a tradesman in the remote communities of North East Arnhamland, and living in those remote communities with very strong culture. He delivered constructed training and coaching (mentoring) to complete projects in over eighteen communities. Lance is also a soldier in Norforce, has trained and mentored indigenous soldiers in all areas of involvement within the requirements of the Norforce duty statement; this also includes DIDP, at which he was Company Sergeant Major in 2011.I have a strong ethical and faithful approach to the delivery of what it takes to deliver the required program that, Central Desert Training are required to perform to the program.
Ursula Jangoot (Mentor) Ursula joined us full time in February 2012 as part of the DIDP program. Through her involvement with major public events, Ursula has had to deal with people from all walks of life, file reports and documentation, organising of workshops, entertainment, touring exhibitions, Draft Policies, Aboriginal Culture and Regions Outreach Programs. Ursula commenced in the role as female mentor. Sally Bergwever (WELL tutor) Sally joined us full time in April 2011 as WELL trainer as part of the DIDP program. Sally is a teacher and has taught across many very remote locations around Australia. She is familiar with the challenges many Indigenous adults face and with the low level of literacy and numeracy skills they have. She is very passionate in her role. Laisa Whippy (WELL tutor) Laisa has joined us in September 2011 and is currently working as a WELL tutor for the Central Land Council and the Frontier Services WELL programs we currently hold in Tennant Creek. Laisa has lived and worked in Tennant Creek for more than 10 years and has a great report with the community members and is passionate about teaching. Julie Dequaine (WELL tutor) Julie has joined us in October 2011 as WELL tutor mainly for the Frontier Services WELL program in Alice Springs and as fill in for the Central Land Council WELL program. Julie has an extensive background in Aged Care and is passionate about working with Indigenous adults as well as teaching adults with English as Second Language. Alex Springer (WELL tutor) Alex is our casual trainer who is currently filling in where needed for the CLC WELL program. Alex has an extensive background in Information Technology and is able to setup mobile computer labs in no time. Alex has tutored and trained in different areas and is very flexible and patient as well as passionate about his job. Steve Newick (Construction Trainer - Subcontractor Training Assist) Steve joined us in March 2011 to provide his expert training services as a subcontractor. Steve has extensive experience in the mining industry, having worked at Newmont Granites for many years. He is a boilermaker by trade and has extensive training experience in OH&S, Whitecard training, First Aid, working at heights, construction and other high risk licensed courses.
